I apologise for the simplistic nature of my question but I have been unable to find an answer online. I have a Kali Linux laptop and intend to create a Virtualbox lab with a WinXP OS to test on. I also want to test on access points as I've started going through Vivek's amazing Security Tube Videos and have achieved sniffing packets and learning all about the different Frame types etc. Once I've achieved a decent level of pen testing I intend to enrol in the Securitytube python coding course.
My question is, do I have to invest in a hardware access point or is it possible to create a virtual victim access point in my virtual lab to test on? (Not to be confused with the Wlan Mon0 interface for attacking with) I don't want to practice on my router for fear of compromising it.
Thanks in advance and no doubt I've caused many facepalms.
